Today we’ll be creating a Personalization campaign to optimize your website for mobile.

Before you start, it’s important to for you to do an initial analysis. We recommend that you:

Identify pages which get lot of mobile traffic.

Review page on mobile devices.

Look for problem areas such as overlapping content, hard to navigate widgets etc.

Reduce content to make your webpage easier to read and navigate on mobile devices.

I’ll be optimizing one of VWO’s landing pages for mobile.

Lets get started. From your VWO dashboard click Create to start a new campaign. Select Personalization.

Lets enter the URL that we are going to test. Select Advanced Options and enable ‘Load campaign on mobile device’.

You can select one of the four mobile views to preview your website on. I want to preview it on an iPhone.

Click Next to open the Visual Editor.

In the visual editor, Select the elements that you want to edit.
I want to remove all the images and copy explaining the headlines to make it less cluttered and easier to navigate.

Click on the element, and select remove. I will do this for all the elements I want to remove.

VWO automatically saves these changes in a variation. Control is always your original page.

Let’s set up a goal. Click on any button on your page and select Track Clicks.

The URL of the button is automatically picked up. Click Done.

In this example, Variation 1 will contain all the changes. Click Next to define targets for your campaign.

Here I need to define the target audience for both control and variations. My campaign is focused on mobile devices.

Click on the drop down menu, select custom and then mobile and tablet traffic. Do this for both control and variation. Click next.

Click Next

Lets set up one more goal. Select ‘track engagement’ that will track every click on the page.
Click next to finalize your campaign.

I am going to name my campaign, Personalizing for mobile. The heatmap is automatically enabled for both control and variation. The test will run on 100% of the traffic.

Click next.

The campaign is almost ready to go. I just need to install the VWO Code on my webpage.

You can send the VWO code directly to your developer and he can install it for you.

I will install the code myself. I just need to copy the code, go to the HTML of my webpage and paste it between the head tags.

Select ‘Check’ to make sure that the code is installed properly.

Everything seems to be in place. Click Start Campaign.

Congratulations! You’ve setup your first A/B Test!

You can keep a tab on your campaign by managing it under the Campaigns Tab. Access it anytime to track reports, change settings and much more.
